The overall goal of the project and the partnership between Caritas Kosova and UNICEF is to promote social inclusion, especially of the children most affected from Roma Mahalla, to ensure that the community and families have the capacity to make a meaningful use of access rights and participation in education, health and social protection. To achieve this, Caritas Kosova emphasizes the need to bridge the gap between the majority of the population and the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, in order to ensure access and use of a quality continuation of health care and quality educational services.
The project includes a series of program activities with close cooperation with local authorities and communities in Mitrovica. The project continuously supports the social inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children from Roma Mahalla in South Mitrovica in the regular education system. Furthermore, the project continuously pays attention to the lessons learned during the implementation years and also provides for the coordination and creation of a strong network composed of local and international civil society organizations and pro-active advocacy with local authorities to improve access to basic services for vulnerable Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children. To achieve the intended objectives, the project team works with children and their parents, school teachers, medical staff and representatives of all other institutions and organizations important for the welfare of children.
